Welcome to the
Our MissionThe Central Valley Harness Association is a carriage driving club and was organized to promote the safe use of equines (horses, ponies, miniature horses and donkeys, mules) in harness. We drive for pleasure, recreation or sport, collect and restore carriages, carts, wagons and all equine-drawn vehicles. Located in California's central valley.
Our HistoryThe Central Valley Harness Association was formed by committed members of the community who wished to expand the "horse and carriage" horizons offered by a relatively new sport on the international scene. In January of 1995, led by Chairperson Skyla Cothran and officers Barbara Brooke, Bill Cole, Carolyn Lanigan, Marie McKee, Sallie Phillips, and Kim Roberts, a new club was formed. This new club offered members the opportunity to compete in a variety of ways from pleasure driving to Combined Driving Events (CDEs). Thanks to the efforts of many of the initial members, the club sponsored many clinics and "Playdays" that focused on the nuances of dressage, obstacles, cones and hazards. Members of the club began competing in various driving events throughout the state, a few nationally. Many members cut their teeth at small shows sponsored by local stables. All together the membership in the club grew to 70 members. The club became the proud sponsor of the RamTap CDE in 1997. This event has drawn interest throughout the driving world. For the past several years, the club has been the proud host to one of the most competitive CDEs in the nation. We welcome all competitors in all classes and levels of ability. We hope that your experiences create memories for years to come. Our members provide:
